August the 12th marks the start of the grouse-shooting season.
Red Grouse are indigenous to the British Isles and remain completely
wild. The moors are maintained year round to provide an environment
in which grouse can survive.
We have a team of six experienced keepers, along with loaders and
beaters. Modern Landrovers, Argocats and quad bikes give access
to the hills and moors.
Lunch is taken on the hill and at the end of the day we retire to
the Gun Room to enjoy a dram with guests, keepers and
loaders to exchange stories and views about the day.
In August the heather turns a rich shade of purple. September brings
strong fast-flying birds; the heather gives up its bloom making
way for autumn. October can produce outstanding shooting as the
birds pack together testing the guns and loaders to
the limit.
